My Final Reflection

My Final Reflection          My 6 weeks here have made me grow as a person. A person who wasn't comfortable with the environment and was overwhelmed with the work, to a person who is very comfortable and found a way to manage my work. In Media literacy class, I have learned about media. Media is an array of modern communication technologies that disseminate information to large audiences, such as movies, video games, Twitter, radio, internet, Instagram, Tik Tok, Magazines, Television, newspapers, etc. This definition has helped me determine the different genres I could use for this writing course. Reading other people's work gave me ideas I never thought of. These ideas were great, but I felt like I didn't have the right information. I remember when the PSA assignment came around, I remember a documentary Super Size Me from school. I used clips from the documentary showing why fast food is unhealthy for you. People liked the idea I was going for and somethi...

Critical Summaries

Summary #1      In this Graphic Novel , we see how GMOs are beneficial and awful for the world, animals, and humans. A girl scientist first tells us what is a GMO for people who don't know what it is. She tells the benefits first by stating, "I can grow in all environments" and they can produce more products. Now she gets to the negative side of our health and environment, by stating if a human eats GM food, "A chemical substance will be left in the body... this can lead to more than 20 kinds of diseases!". The diseases are Thyloid cancer, Alzheimer, etc. I feel like GMOs are dangerous because we don't know what they use in GM foods. This specific quote from the graphic novel, "Then, the farmer needs to use a herbicide to kill them (lead to water pollution)... And more Carbon-Dioxide is released into the atmosphere". This supports my opinion because we know herbicide is used to manipulate undesirable vegetation which is a good thing, but we don...

Notice: • In the early 1990s, Hawaii’s papaya industry was facing disaster because of the deadly papaya ring spot virus. (reason for genetic engineering) (2) • The NewLeaf™ potato (GM food) was developed using naturally-occurring bacteria found in the soil known as Bacillus thuringiensis to protect it from the Colorado potato beetle (4) • The USA imports 10 % of its sugar from other countries, while the remaining 90 % is extracted from domestically grown sugar beet and sugarcane. (9) • Testing on GMOs in food and feed is routinely done using molecular techniques like DNA microarrays or qPCR (elements like p35S, tNos, pat, or bar or event-specific markers for the official GMOs like Mon810, Bt11, or GT73.) (3) • This is the testing process of GMOs in a diagram: • GMOs are very safe to consume (5) • It is believed that consumption of these genetically engineered foods can cause the development of diseases that are immune to antibiotics. ( 1) • n ot much is known ab...

Inquiry Reflection

A question I have been wondering about is GMOs (Genetically modified organisms) safe to eat. First, we have to know what are GMOs. GMOs is a plant, animals, or an organism that are modified in a laboratory using genetic engineering. Gmos are used to help farmers to prevent crops and food loss. According to "GMOS and Your Health" " do not affect you differently than non-GMO foods”(GMOS and Your Health). This shows the answer to my question about GMOs being safe for humans. A negative thing about GMOs is that GMOs are bad for the environment. GMOs affect biodiversity, the existing species can be overrun by the more dominant species because of the lack of nutrients that the existing species are getting. Another negative thing about GMOs for humans is that they can change your DNA. “Concern has also surrounded the idea that genetically modified DNA would be unstable, causing damage (via unintentional mutations) not only to the crop but also to whoever would consume it. Mutat...

PSA Video/Reflection

https://youtu.be/F3Pf2_FxZ8o      The ideas that I'm communicating with my audience to stay away from Amerian foods because health is at risk and to keep eating your culture foods. The specific resources that has helped flesh out ny ideas is the different PSA videos we watched in class. The PSA video about one about animals abuse has helped me because it showed me that people don't have to speak to spread a message, but can have words on the screen. Another video that helped me is the panda because it spreads the message to save pandas without speaking and show facts about the endangered species which spread the message. My old school work has helped because I remembered watching a documentary call "Super Size Me" and that documentary shows how terrible fast food is. This guy eats McDonald's for 30 days straight and shows the terrible things it does to your body. The genre of PSA and the medium which is video has helped me commuicate my ideas because ...

Summary of Food Advertisements

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mROjY3I2umw   Summary:      In this Popeyes ad, they were showing their new food item at the time which was the Popeyes chicken sandwich. This commercial was showing the crispy chicken with its toasted buns and included a spicy or a classic option of the sandwich. This ad was only 15 seconds, but it's described very well that it includes sensory language. This connects to "A matter of taste: Food ads work better if all senses are involved" because Popeyes's commercials used the 5 senses to enhance the customer's grasp of the food.       The Sensory languages being used in this commercial are the 4 senses which are sight, sound, and taste. The first one they used is sight, so the audience can see how delicious the Popeyes chicken Sandwich is. We see it looks crispy, well-cooked chicken with mayo and pickles, but you can always take them off. Next, they use sounds like their classic Popeyes music, and the person talki...
